Police are continuing to look for a Porirua man who has been missing for more than 24 hours.

Detective Sergeant Steve Dunn of the Porirua CIB says Police still have significant concerns for the wellbeing and safety of 26 year old William Campbell.

"Mr Campbell was last seen at 9am yesterday morning in the Kenepuru Hospital grounds. Last night a search by Land SAR volunteers and Police Search and Rescue staff failed to locate him."

Detective Sergeant Dunn says one line of enquiry Police are following is the possibility that Mr Campbell has headed to the Auckland region.

"We have received a sighting of a male fitting his description hitchhiking near Lindale, north of Paraparaumu around 3:20pm yesterday afternoon."

Steve Dunn says Police are keen to hear from any Kapiti business owners or shopkeepers who may recognise Mr Campbell's photo and recall seeing him yesterday afternoon. We'd also like to hear from anyone who may have picked up this hitchhiker yesterday afternoon."

Police also urge any of Mr Campbell's friends and associates to contact Police if they have seen or heard from him since yesterday morning or those who may have information as to his whereabouts.

"We do hold concerns for Mr Campbell's wellbeing and safety and want to locate him safely."

Anyone with any information can contact 11 or phone Porirua Police Station on (04) 238 1400.
