ROTORUA

An area around the Rotorua Aquatic Centre has been closed to traffic to allow fire service to deal with a leaking chemical tanker.

The 1000 litre tanker carrying low-concentration calcium chloride apparently ruptured when negotiating speed humps in the car park at the centre.

People in the centre were kept inside as a precaution and the closures are to allow emergency vehicle access.

Cordons are in place at Ranolf, Tarewa and Pukuatua Streets and motorists are advised to find alternate routes.
