WELLINGTON CITY

Remember that the area around Wellington Regional Stadium has been designated a 'clean zone' during RWC 2011, under the 2007 Major Events Management Act (MEMA).

For information on the rules and when they apply, go to:
Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand - Guide to the MEMA Act 2007 eBook

And remember - the MEMA targets unauthorised associations with RWC 2011and those who deliberately break the rules.

Council and Ministry of Economic Development staff will monitor a designated 500-metre area around the stadium to ensure there are no breaches of our bylaws and District Plan and MEMA rules.

Having staff out and about checking activities that require permission, such as street trading and food stalls, is especially important during RWC 2011 when people may try to exploit short-term business opportunities.

We need Council staff there to protect not only sponsors' rights, but also the rights of legitimate Wellington businesses.

Advice for Buskers

As always, you need a permit to busk.

Even with a permit, you can't set up near the stadium when clean zones are operating - buskers within 500 metres of the stadium will be required to move.

Wellington Railway Station, including the subway, forecourt and part of Bunny Street, is within the clean zone.
