Zimbabwean democracy leader seeks support from NZ
The Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand is hosting a press conference with Sekai Holland, leading politician in the Zimbabwean democracy movement, on Tuesday, 9 October.
Green Party Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Keith Locke says Ms Holland will be meeting with New Zealand politicians during her short visit with proposals for how New Zealand can take a more effective stance against Robert Mugabe’s dictatorship.
Earlier this year Ms Holland was in the headlines when she and other opposition leaders, including Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai, were brutally beaten by Mugabe's thugs, for which Ms Holland required lengthy hospitalisation.
Ms Holland has worked extensively in women’s development and education, was instrumental in forming the Movement for Democratic Change party in 1999. Holland was elected to the MDC National Executive, and works as Secretary for International Affairs.
