BAY OF PLENTY

Police are temporarily closing Pohutukawa Avenue in Ohope, between Hillcrest Gorge and Wainui to allow Armed Offender Squad members to clear an Ohope address.
Police were called to a neighbouring address just before 2.00am when occupants noticed a strong smell coming from under their house. A man was seen leaving the property and police are attempting to locate and speak to him.
Although the substance has not been identified, AOS are being used as a precautionary measure as they have access to protective clothing.
Another release will be made when the operation has concluded and the roads have been reopened.
