Police are appealing for witnesses to a road crash which claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Foxton early this morning.

The crash happened approximately 4.45am on State Highway 1 near the Mobile Service Station at the north end of Foxton.

A silver Toyota car travelling north was in collision with a motorcycle travelling south. The motorcyclist, a 50-year-old man from the Horowhenua area was killed in the collision. Neither the 18-year-old male driver of the Toyota or his 16-year-old female passenger was injured in the crash.

Serious Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the crash. At this stage there is nothing to suggest that either speed or alcohol were factors.

The name of the deceased man will not be released until next of kin have been informed.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact Levin CIB on 06 366 0500.
