Mayor Ray Wallace will switch his ceremonial robes for a kilt when he welcomes the Scottish rugby team to Lower Hutt for a public training session on Sunday 18 September.

The team will train at Hutt Recreation Ground from 10am and Mayor Wallace is looking forward to wearing his Scottish family tartan.

“I was born in Scotland and with a name like ‘Wallace’ remain very proud of my Scottish roots."

I’m sure the people of Lower Hutt will join me in welcoming the team to our city and the fantastic Hutt Rec playing ground.

“It’s going to be a great occasion and an opportunity for people to watch the team be put through their paces as they prepare to play Argentina, get their autographs and perhaps even practice their own ball skills with the Scottish players. I hear there is also some Scottish rugby jerseys to be won.”

Mayor Wallace will also don the Wallace tartan when he makes a short speech prior to kick off at the Scottish-Argentine match on Sunday September 25 at Wellington Regional Stadium.
