Police try to reunite rugby fans with lost property

Rugby fans are being urged to take care of their property as New Plymouth Police attempt to locate the owners of passports, cameras and wallets handed in after Sunday's Ireland v USA game.

The number of items reported as lost or found this week in New Plymouth is higher than normal and although many items have been reunited with owners, others are still to be claimed.

Police have a US and an Irish passport, an Irish driver's licence, a couple of wallets, an i-Phone and two cameras. Some of these items identify the owners but not their current locations as they are tourists and Police are having to work with immigration and consulates to try and facilitate the return of the property. The owners of these items should have realised by now that they are missing but they haven't made contact with Police.

Janis Moore, who looks after lost and found property for New Plymouth, said: "Passports are probably one of the most expensive and difficult items to replace so we are appealing to people to just take a little extra care. We also want people to contact us if they do lose something, as we can quickly reunite people with their property and save time spent trying to locate the owners."
