Wairarapa Police investigating suspicious fire

Wairarapa Police are investigating a suspicious house fire in Westmere Road, Winuiaru which occurred in the early hours of this morning.

Detective Sergeant Barry Bysouth of the Wairarapa CIB says the Fire Service was called to the derelict house at about 2am, which is located near the junction of Hakakino and Westmere Roads.

"The house has been completely destroyed by the fire and early examination of the scene indicates the fire has been deliberately lit."

Detective Sergeant Bysouth says the exact cause of the blaze is still being investigated.

"We would like to hear from anyone who noticed anything unusual in this rural area prior to the fire, between 6pm last night and 3am this morning or noticed any unusual vehicles in the area at the time."
