Fatal Road Crash In West Auckland
An 18 year old male has been killed in a serious road crash in West Auckland early this morning. The crash happened at 1.00am Sunday 18 September 2011 on Hobsonville Road, east of the Northwestern Motorway.
The Iranian national was one of five occupants of a stolen Blue Subaru Station Wagon. He died at the scene. The remaining four occupants were transported by ambulances to North Shore and Auckland Hospitals. Emergency services were quickly on the scene. All the occupants were under 20 years of age.
A 16 year old female is in Auckland Hospital with moderate injuries. Two females and a male have been treated for their injuries and have since been discharged
The vehicle attracted the attention of police as a result of being driven erratically. After about three minutes police lost sight of the fleeing vehicle.
Less than a minute later a responding police patrol located the Subaru. It had rolled onto its roof and into a residential driveway in Hobsonville Road.
The Waitematä Police Serious Crash Unit and the Waitakere CIB is investigating the circumstances of the crash. The Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified. The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
