Western Bay of Plenty continue search for missing person
Western Bay of Plenty Police will resume their search [this] morning for a 55 year old man missing after a boating accident on Tauranga Harbour [yesterday] evening.
Senior Sergeant Rob Glencross said that the alarm was raised shortly before 8pm by another man from the boat who managed to make it safely back to shore.
A search by shore based staff along with a water based search by Tauranga Coastguard members failed to locate the missing man.
The TECT Rescue Helicopter was also deployed in an effort to locate the missing man.
Senior Sergeant Glencross said that the accident happened in the upper harbour between the Matapihi Peninsula and Welcome Bay. Weather conditions were calm at the time of the accident.
