Head-On Crash At Wellsford

The Waitematä Serious Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of a head-on crash at Wellsford yesterday. One person died at the scene. Three other persons were taken to hospital with moderate to serious injuries.

Police say a northbound Nissan and a southbound Ford were involved in the collision. The crash happened in darkness at about 6.30pm at a location on State Highway One just north of Robertson Road, Wellsford.

The weather was fine and road surface dry at the time of crash.

Police and emergency services went quickly to the scene. Two female occupants in the Ford motor vehicle were transported to Auckland Hospital by ambulance. A female passenger in the Nissan was airlifted to hospital by Westpac Rescue helicopter.

The Serious Crash Unit is appealing for witnesses to the fatal crash.

The name of the 61 year old female deceased who was the driver of the Nissan has not yet been released.
