Crash kills one, sends three children to hospital

18:00 - Police and other emergency services are currently at the scene of a fatal crash on State Highway One, Pairere, South Waikato.

As well as the single fatality three children aged 7yrs, 4 yrs and 18mths have been airlifted by helicopter to Waikato hospital, a further elderly passenger has been transported by ambulance to the same hospital.

All traffic has been diverted from S/H 1 in the vicinity of the crash onto S/H 29.

Police Serious Crash and Photography staff are currently at the scene and the road will be closed until scene investigations have been completed. T

he estimated time of opening is 8pm.

Motorists are cautioned to take due care on Upper North Island Road due to rain making general road conditions slippery and unpredictable.
