Mayfield, Ashburton District - Fatal Crash

At approx 6.49 pm this evening (3/10/2011) Police were advised of a serious crash in Lismore Mayfield Road near Mayfield. Emergency Services rushed to the scene and established that a car had collided with a power pole.

The sole male occupant of the car died as a result of injuries received in the crash.

The Police, assisted by Victim Support, are in the process of notifying the next of kin.

The Serious Crash Serious Unit are investigating the cause of the crash.

No further comments will be made tonight.
