Wellington have won the Christchurch Cup for the first time since its 1985 inception to become the 2011 Masters Inter-District Team Champs after three days of competition at Nelson Squash Club.

With five Districts entered into the event, a round robin format was used where each team would play each other once to determine the winner.

Early in the competition Wellington had wins over defending champs Bay of Plenty and also against Waikato. As the event continued Wellington had a loss to Canterbury and narrowly beat by three sets after scores were locked at five matches apiece.

With one round to go and Wellington not scheduled to play, the team were on the ferry when they heard the news that they were the new Masters Inter-District champions. Although Bay of Plenty beat Waikato, both Districts were at a tie on three wins each so the result was decided by the head-to-head result from the two tied teams ... a match played on day one where Wellington won 6-4.
