Attempted Robbery and assault of a boy in Newtown
Wellington Police are investigating an attempted robbery of a boy aged between 10 and 11 years which occurred at the corner of Riddiford Street and Hall Street, Newtown, Wellington which occurred about 5.50 p.m. today, Friday 12th October 2007.
The boy was walking in a north direction toward the hospital when he was accosted by a 27 year old Maori man. This person tried to take a skateboard of the boy and when he resisted the man assaulted the child.
The offence was witnessed by members of the public who subsequently contacted the Police. Members of the public went to the boys' aid. The child left the scene of the assault before Police arrived.
The Offender was located by Police a short time later near by and has been arrested.
He appears before the Wellington District Court Saturday 12th October 2007.
Police want to locate and hear from the victim and other members of the Public that saw the incident.

Average build & height for a child of that age
Fair hair (blonde or light blonde)
Red Shirt / Top
Blue Jeans
Carrying a dark coloured skateboard
