Police operation in Bay of Plenty

Police have today executed search warrants in the Bay of Plenty seeking firearms and other weapons.

The enforcement action was the termination of a lengthy Police operation which ran over the course of 2006/07. The search warrants were carried out mainly in the Eastern Bay of Plenty area and centred in Ruatoki. Searches were also carried out in some other parts of the country.

Specialist armed police were on hand in the Bay of Plenty while the warrants were executed.

Police have seized firearms found at some addresses and a number of people are being spoken to in relation to firearms offences.
