Te Ahu Centre opens its doors

Up to 300 people will get a sneak preview of Te Ahu Centre’s interior next month.

Te Ahu Trust is holding an open evening at the nearly-finished centre on November 9 from 5:30 to 8pm to update the community on construction work.

Trustee Monty Knight says the open evening will be the first opportunity for the public to see inside the $14 million centre’s atrium and new-build areas that will house:

- Kaitaia’s public library
- i-SITE
- Far North Regional Museum and Archives
- Far North District Council service centre and offices
- café
- exhibition and public spaces

“There will be a route for people to follow so they can get a feeling of what it will be like,” Mr Knight says.

The trust will also hold an auction and report on a community fundraising campaign which hopes to raise $1 million for fit-out costs and finishing touches.

Entry to the event will be free. However, visitors will be asked to give a koha (donation) to help the trust meet costs of providing light refreshments.

“If you think the meal is worth $20, we would like you to give $20.”
