During a tragic 24 hours on New Zealand roads, Police are urging all road users to take care this weekend. 4 people have died in less than 24 hours bringing the total to 5 deaths for Labour Weekend.
The holiday road toll include the deaths of a man and woman in their 40’s near Hastings in a single car crash in the early hours of Sunday morning. A female motorcyclist died as a result of injuries after a crash near Wanganui on Saturday evening. Both incidents were single vehicle crashes.
The latest death comes after a fatal crash on the state highway near Wellsford. Details of the crash are still sketchy but one death has been confirmed.
The first fatality of the holiday period saw a man killed in Napier on Saturday morning.
Superintendent Paula Rose, National Manager Road Police says “Please, please take care when travelling. Holiday weekends see higher than usual traffic and increased risk. Drivers can make a difference. Police want every journey to be a safe journey for everyone but for this to happen everyone must think about their driving all the time.”
