Armed Robbery

On Sunday 23rd October 2011, the Rugby World Cup Final night, police were called to attend an armed robbery at Countdown, 19, Donovan Street, Blockhouse Bay.

At 9.12pm, that night, three masked men entered Countdown and threatened staff. One male was armed with a pistol, the second male was armed with two knives and the third was armed with a baseball bat. The men stole money from the till and items from one of the staff. They made their escape in an awaiting light coloured car.

A short while later, police located in a nearby street, an abandoned stolen Silver Suburu Legacy. The vehicle was found in Exminster Street and had been stolen from Penrose a few days before.

An appeal is sought for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the subsequent disposal of the stolen Suburu, or any person who has any information about the incident to contact Avondale CIB Detective Victoria Williams on 09 820 5760 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
