Coppins podiums in thrilling Mettet starbiker.
New Zealander, Josh Coppins, has raced to a commendable third overall at the star studded Mettet starbiker in Belgium this weekend. In only his second ever Supermoto race, Coppins qualified 6th for a reasonable position on the starting grid. With Chambon crashing out of moto 1, Coppins was able to secure third spot behind former motocross rival Michael Pichon and MX legend Micky Dymond.
Coppins grabbed another good start in moto 2 but got caught up in the second corner losing valuable positions. He completed the first lap in 9th and had plenty of work cut out for him. ‘Lizzard’ put his head down and made his way past Breugelmans, Demaria and Troy Corser to finish in 5th, closely behind Frenchman Frederic Bolley.
“I really enjoyed this weekend.” smiled Coppins. “ The weather was perfect and I got faster every time I went out. I had no crashes and got the hang of it really fast. My YZ450F worked really well and THOR sent me out a cool leather suite so at least I looked the part!”
Coppins has a week of MX testing planned in Italy before heading to the UK for the infamous Western Beach race this coming weekend.
