The Auckland Chamber of Commerce, with the assistance of the International Team at the Auckland Council, hosted a sixty person delegation from China last week. The delegation was lead by Mr. Wang, the Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). The delegation consisted of CCPIT Directors, entrepreneurs and business leaders from various industries and areas across China.

As a nationwide trade promotion organisation, CCPIT consists of people, enterprises, associations and groups of China’s economic and trade circles. The purpose of the CCPIT is to promote trade, investment, economic and technological co-operation between China and the rest of the world.

The CCPIT, also known as the China Chamber of International Commerce, is an influential trade and investment promotion organisation both at home and abroad. It has set up a nationwide organisational system and business network, extended to most countries and regions of the world. CCPIT has 50 sub-councils, 18 industrial sub-councils, and nearly 700 local branches across China, as well as 14 overseas representative offices.

During his presentation in Auckland, Mr Wang outlined three key areas to take the New Zealand and China economic relationship forward and enhance future cooperation. These were:

  • To maximise the benefits of the NZ/China FTA; both markets need to have a better understanding of the agreement and how to utilize it.
  • We need to deepen trade and economic activities and expand the industries that we engage in. He noted the immense opportunity that exists in sectors such as tourism and education.
  • The need to strengthen exchanges between businesses in China and New Zealand.

The delegations visit establishes an exciting link and co-operation between the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and the CCPIT. It allows both parties to have in-market support and resources to draw on.
