Auckland Police are currently searching for a missing fisherman in Manakau Harbour behind the Auckland International Airport.

On the evening of Saturday 29 October 2011, three males left their vehicle on Ihumatao Road and walked along the harbour to Karore Bank.

Their intention was to set a fishing net at low tide on the bank.

After setting the net the three then set off to return to their vehicle.

One of the fishermen became separated from his companions and failed to return to the vehicle.

Police were notified at about 10.30pm last night and commenced a search and rescue operation.

Both the Police Eagle and Westpac Rescue helicopters have been deployed together with land based search and rescue teams who were assisted by the Airport Crash Hovercraft which is the only vehicle able to traverse the area.

The missing fisherman has not been located and Police hold grave concerns for the fisherman's safety.
