Fatal Bicycle Accident

Wairoa Police are investigating a fatal bicycle accident in rural Wairoa.

At approximately 3pm on Sunday the 6th of November a motorist discovered a deceased cyclist on Awamate Road, approximately 15 kilometres West of Wairoa.

The deceased was in a small ditch slightly out of view from the road.

The deceased is a 66 year old local male who had gone for a training ride for an up coming event.

Initially his bike wasn't located, but was found a short time later in a paddock on the opposite side of the road.

Police believe that someone may have located the bike and was unaware of the accident and moved the bike off the road for safe keeping.

Wairoa Police and the Eastern District Serious Crash unit are investigating.
