Cricket Nets Funding to be Considered Next Year
Funding for cricket nets in Pukekura Park will be considered as part of NPDC’s Long-Term Plan deliberations next year.
Tonight (Tuesday) the Council considered reallocating $325,000 from the year-end operating surplus to construction of the nets, and uplifting the $100,000 pledge from TSB Community Trust.
However Councillors felt they had to follow the Treasury Management Policy which states that any surplus must go toward repaying debt.
“This isn’t a vote against the cricket nets; rather, it’s about following our own protocol,” says Mayor Harry Duynhoven.
“The Council confirmed its intention to retain Pukekura Park as a first-class cricket ground. To do that the ground needs practice nets, and we’ll consider the funding for them during the Long-Term Plan alongside all the other projects that are in front of us.”
