Truck and trailer on its roof

Police report that at about 4pm today, a truck and trailer transporting stock crashed along SH 10 between Paewhenua island and Hihi turnoff in the far north. Both the truck and the trailer ended up resting upside down blocking the road.

Both lanes have been blocked for the last 45 minutes. No other vehicle was involved. Some of the stock are dead. Some are being attended to by the local vet.

A single lane has just been opened up to allow traffic through. This lane will close again within the hour when the cranes arrive to lift the truck and trailer upright again.

Motorists are advised to stay away from this area if at all possible. There are no roads that can be used for traffic diversions.
