Mayor Rick Cooper swore in 12 new citizens of New Zealand earlier this week at an official Citizenship Ceremony in the Council Chambers.
The new citizens were originally from the Philippines, Samoa, the United Kingdom and Fiji. Mayor Rick Cooper congratulated the group on their long journey to citizenship, saying that becoming a New Zealand citizen is no easy task these days. “It is a long and tough journey, so well done to you all, and welcome to your new home.”
He also reminded the group that it was important not to forget where they had come from. “It is the coming together of all of our backgrounds and cultures that make New Zealand such a wonderful place to live.”
