It has been a busy time for Morton Estate on the awards scene, as their wines have continued to uphold their reputation as one of New Zealand’s top producers of wine.

The recent Air New Zealand Wine Awards saw Morton Estate receive a Gold medal for their 2007 Black Label Hawkes Bay Chardonnay. Wine master Bob Campbell describes this multiple award winning Chardonnay as ‘quite a complex wine with a sensitive mix of ripe peach/nectarine fruit flavours with bran biscuit and hazelnut.’

The annual Hawkes Bay A & P Mercedes Benz Wine Awards were held in Hastings in October; the awards are the largest regional wine awards in New Zealand and Morton Estate showed they are a vineyard capable of producing wines of a consistently high quality.

Once again, the Morton Estate 2007 Black Label Chardonnay won a Gold Medal, reinforcing this wines position as an outstanding Chardonnay.

The Morton Estate NV Reserve Sec was awarded as a champion sparkling wine, winning best in its class. The Morton Estate 2010 Private Reserve Gewurztraminer was also awarded a Silver medal.

The Marlborough Wine Show also proved to be a success for Morton Estate with their Black Label Awatere Sauvignon Blanc 2009 being crowned ‘champion’ in the Sauvignon Blanc category of wines 2009 and older.

On the international stage, Morton Estate attracted positive attention and earned top awards with their selection of premium wines at the International Wines and Spirits Competition. The 2007 Morton Estate Black Label Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay was again recognised as one of the best, awarded Silver and best in its class.

Morton Estate’s red wines also received a high level of recognition with the Morton Estate Black Label Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010 and the Morton Estate Black Label Syrah 2007, both being awarded Silver.

Morton Estate’s General Manager Fiona MacDiarmid says, “Morton Estate is thrilled to be recognised for our premium wines both in New Zealand and internationally. We believe we produce a wine for everyone from high end, to affordable, premium quality wines for everyday. The recent awards show Morton Estate’s ability to produce award winning wines.”

The company uses some of New Zealand’s top winemakers, leading technology and the best of traditional winemaking practices to craft a range of wines, which are now internationally famous.
