Renee Nathan has been appointed to the new position of Business Marketing Manager with Rotorua District Council’s marketing department, Destination Rotorua Marketing (DRM).

Rotorua District Council Economic & Regulatory Services group manager Mark Rawson said the position was created as part of the restructure of DRM earlier this year. Ms Nathan’s key focus would be the development and implementation of a marketing plan to promote Rotorua as a great place to live, work and invest.

He said Ms Nathan has a solid background in marketing and was joining DRM having successfully undertaken work for the council coordinating a number of Rotorua-based Rugby World Cup initiatives.

“The new role has been created to assist in bringing focus to the number one priority of the Rotorua Sustainable Economic Growth Strategy. That objective is to lift the reputation of Rotorua as a leader in the tourism, geothermal, forestry and wood processing industries, and be recognised as a preferred lifestyle destination, as an attractive and easy place to invest and do business in, and as a district with an enabling regulatory environment.

“The position fits within our Destination Rotorua Marketing department so we can leverage off tourism marketing activity and ensure alignment with Rotorua’s external marketing messages. Renee will work closely with a wide cross-section of the Rotorua business and investment community and other departments of RDC.”

Ms Nathan said that her new role was an exciting and challenging one which she was looking forward to.

“I’ve enjoyed working closely with the local tourism industry over the last 14 years. This role has a broader community-wide focus so working collectively to make a positive difference in my home town is something special to me.”

Destination Rotorua acting general manager Tania Bui said locals’ belief in Rotorua as a great place to live and work was fundamental to delivering the promise of Rotorua as a great place to visit.

“Creating and communicating the positives around living and working in Rotorua, and celebrating the good stuff that underpins this community, is what this role can do.”

Ms Nathan starts her new position with Destination Rotorua Marketing on 28 November.
