Porirua Police have arrested and charged a woman in connection to a serious assault in Waitangirua last month, which left a 23 year old man requiring facial reconstruction surgery.

Detective Sergeant Steve Dunn of the Porirua CIB says at about 2.30am on Saturday 1 October, the 23 year old victim from Cannons Creek and his friend got into an altercation with a group of people in the carpark of the Waitangirua Mall and as a result, he received some serious head and facial injuries.

"We have been investigating this serious assault since it occurred last month and yesterday a 24 year old Masterton woman was arrested and charged with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm."

She appeared in the Masterton District Court yesterday and has been remanded to reappear on Friday 25 November 2011.

"We are determined that those responsible for this entirely unprovoked and vicious attack are held accountable for their actions and we expect to make further arrests."

Detective Sergeant Dunn urges anyone who has any information in relation to the incident on 1 October 2011 to contact Porirua Police on (04) 238 1400 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
