Warning signs will be going up on a section of Coastal Walkway after erosion along a seaside cliff.

The cliff between Cutfield and Belt roads has been progressively undermined by sea and wind action to the point where people must not step over the walkway barrier, says Manager Parks Programmes Steve McGill.

“There is so little support beneath the grass section that we aren’t confident it can hold a person’s weight – and it’s a straight drop to the rocks below,” says Mr McGill.

“If people keep to the walkway’s path, they’ll be safe.”

A more substantial fence might be required along the affected section.

Mr McGill says a coastal engineer is being brought in to investigate the cliff face and make recommendations regarding the site. “We’re looking at ways to mitigate the effect of the sea on that cliff, and any other action we can take to ensure public safety is maintained.”
