At 11.00pm 23rd November 2011 Timaru police were notified of a fishing boat that had not responded to radio and phone calls. Its last known location was in an area called "the rocks" which is 12 miles out to sea from the Makikihi River mouth.

Entensive enquiries and searching has failed to find the fishing boat.

At 11.00am today a body has been located on the beach near the Makikihi River. This is thought to have come from the missing fishing boat. Further inquiries are continuing to establish the identity of this body.
