TE PUKE

At about 7:38 pm on Sunday 27 November, 2011, a red BMW Convertable left the road colliding with a culvert and concrete power pole on State Highway 2 Te Puke, near the intersection with Gulliver Road.

Sergeant Mike Owen of the Western Bay of Plenty Road Policing Unit said a 58 year old Te Puke man, who was the sole occupant, died instantly.

A Police Crash Analyst attended the scene and investigations are continuing. The cause of the crash has not yet been established.

Police would like anyone who saw the red BMW in the location of the Whakatane turn off around the time of the crash to contact the Tauranga South Police Station.

The name of the victim will not be released until next of kin have been advised.
