Bluff residents are currently without water due to a fault in the main water supply at the Bluff Hill Reservoir.

Invercargill City Council Water Manager Alister Murray said at 2.05 am Council staff were made aware there was a problem in Bluff and work men were sent immediately.

At 3.50am the fault was identified as being at the main trunk from the Bluff Hill Reservoir, he said.

Workmen have obtained the materials to repair it, however in order to fix it the water supply had to be isolated, meaning there is no water in the township of Bluff at the moment.*

"I apologise for the inconvenience to all Bluff residents who are without water," Mr Murray said.

Mr Murray said a water tanker has been arranged and is stationed at Foyle Street outside the Bluff Rugby Grounds.

"Residents are welcome to bring along their water carrying vessels and help themselves to the water in the tanker."

Mr Murray said the tanker would also act as an emergency supply for the fire station if there was an emergency during this time of repair.

Staff are working hard to fix the fault and get the water supply up and running as soon as possible.

Mr Murray said he expected the fault to be repaired and the water supply resumed sometime in the afternoon.
