Chapman Tripp announces five new partners

Chapman Tripp is pleased to announce five new partners in the firm’s Auckland and Wellington offices, effective 1 December. The firm’s new partners are members of Chapman Tripp’s litigation and dispute resolution, financial services regulation, finance and resource management practices.

The appointments demonstrate the firm’s continued growth and success as New Zealand’s pre-eminent law firm.

These appointments make Chapman Tripp the largest legal partnership in New Zealand, with 54 partners.

Paula Brosnahan*, Auckland, Environment, planning and resource management

Paula advises clients on the resource management and environmental aspects of property developments, subdivisions, retail and infrastructure projects, land transport matters, due diligence investigations and Overseas Investment Act issues. She appears before local authorities and the Environment Court on various resource management matters, and advises on and prepares applications, submissions, appeals, references and other statutory and Court documents under the Resource Management Act. Paula has previously practised environmental law in San Francisco.

Daniel Kalderimis, Wellington, Litigation and dispute resolution

Daniel is an experienced advisor and advocate for complex commercial disputes. He has particular expertise in cross-border litigation and leads Chapman Tripp’s international arbitration and trade law practice. Daniel has represented clients in a wide range of industries, including telecommunications, oil and gas, mining, financial services and agriculture. He is widely published and is recognised in The International Who’s Who of Commercial Arbitration. Daniel is also qualified in New York and England and Wales and returned to Chapman Tripp in 2009, following five years with international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP.
Edward Scorgie, Auckland, Litigation and dispute resolution

Edward has extensive experience in building, construction and infrastructure disputes, acting regularly for property owners, consultants, contractors and product manufacturers. He is also a key member of Chapman Tripp’s tax disputes practice. Beyond these areas of specialisation, his practice extends to the full range of commercial disputes, with a particular interest in trust and equity problems in a commercial context.

Penny Sheerin, Auckland, Funds and financial services regulation

Penny co-leads Chapman Tripp’s financial services regulation team and also specialises in funds management and securities law. Penny advises clients on investments, funds and savings products, including unit trusts and KiwiSaver, and securities and commercial laws. She advises on a range of legislation affecting financial service providers, including compliance obligations under the new financial advisors and anti-money laundering regimes, and insurance prudential supervision requirements. Prior to joining Chapman Tripp, Penny worked for the Securities Commission and Takeovers Panel.

Emma Sutcliffe, Wellington, Finance

Emma specialises in corporate finance law advising banks, corporates, state-owned enterprises, and other entities. She has particular experience in acquisition finance and capital markets programmes, and has also advised a range of clients in relation to syndicated and bilateral bank financing, structured finance transactions, ISDA agreements and personal property securities issues. She also has experience advising on financial regulation issues.
