The Telecom Christmas Tree in Auckland's viaduct at Te Wero Island was lit tonight with some help from Santa on the phone via the Santaline phone booths at the base of the tree.
It is open now 24/7 and is FREE until Boxing Day when the lights will turn off for another year.
Everyone visiting the Tree is encouraged to bring a gift to leave for children in need, and a proportion of the gifts left at the Auckland Tree will be distributed to Christchurch children who have had a particularly tough year.
