New Zealand’s newest summer festival, Rhythm & Alps is set to kick things off with a bang, with the addition of US dubstep producer and DJ, 12th Planet and UK drum’n’bass MC Youngman.

Widely considered a pioneer of the dubstep culture in America, 2011 has seen 12th Planet touching down at SXSW, Ultra, and Coachella as well as currently working on a new album that’s packed to the brim with collaborations and vocals from some of the most talented personalities in the industry. 12th Planet will see the Rhythm & Alps crowd through to the wee hours on December 28th, taking things up a notch at the picturesque Terrace Downs.

One of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic vocal talents, Youngman, also joins the Rhythm & Alps line-up, playing alongside Skream & Benga. Known for his fiery vocals across the drum’n’bass, R&B and bassline scenes, Youngman is Benga’s number one MC with their collaboration single ‘Ho/One & Only’ becoming an instant smash across the UK underground this year.

Taking place over two days leading up to New Year’s Eve, Rhythm & Alps is set to welcome 34 renowned international and local acts to Canterbury, in what’s shaping up to be an epic line-up of bass culture, electronica, and hip-hop. 12th Planet will play alongside Grandmaster Flash, Netsky, Skream & Benga ft. Youngman, Flying Lotus, LTJ Bukem, Six60, Homebrew, Brookes Brothers, Dub Fx, 1814, Antix, and more.

“The South Island is definitely in need of some solid summer entertainment, and we’re really happy Rhythm & Alps has been so well received,” says Program Director Hamish Pinkham.

“It’s not every day you get such huge names to Canterbury and the addition of 12th Planet and Youngman really tops it – it’s going to be an epic few days!”

R&A is also stoked to announce its ‘Feel the Rhythm’ competition, which will see two lucky festival-goers getting hit with the rhythm stick, heading to both Rhythm & Alps AND Rhythm & Vines in Gisborne. Anyone who buys their R&A ticket before December 14 goes in the draw to win a VIP pass and onsite camping for Rhythm & Vines, airport transfers and return flights to Christchurch, a side of stage experience at R&V PLUS a VIP upgrade at Rhythm & Alps – all for them and a friend.

Rhythm & Alps VIP, accommodation and buses
Rhythm & Alps VIP tickets are now available, offering guests the hottest ticket this summer and the perfect place to chill and take in the festival. The VIP offering will provide access to an exclusive cocktail bar, priority check-in on arrival, preferential bus queuing and more.

Various accommodation options are still available including free onsite camping as well as hotels and holiday homes in the surrounding area. Furthermore, festival-goers can flock to Rhythm & Alps from all around the Canterbury region, with organisers offering a bus service between Methven and Terrace Downs.
