The search for a trainee rafting guide missing on the Rangitikei River from a rafting trip yesterday continues.
A helicopter sweep has been made of the river. Teams of mainly professional rafting guides will search the area of the river this morning. The area is a grade 5 stretch of water that is challenging for the searchers.
Search and Rescue are involved and are supporting the activities. The search controller is Brian McGaw a professional rafting guide.
The missing man is a Norwegian national with significant river experience. He was well equipped. He had undertaken 6 to 7 trips previously on the same stretch of water.
River Valley Rafting are supporting the Police to contact the man's parents and other family in Norway, to inform them that he is missing.
Rafting trips are cancelled today as the professional guides are conducting the search.
