Traffic congestion likely in Nelson

People who travel into Nelson to work are advised it is likely there will be delays again this morning.

Rocks Road remains closed today and the only route into the city is via Waimea Road.
Pedestrians and cyclists cannot use Rocks Road.

Police are asking people to only travel into the city if it is essential, and if possible to stay home and keep the roads clear for contractors and emergency services.

Further slips overnight forced the evacuation of a number of households in the Port Hills above Rocks Road.

Attempts by Police to reach Cable Bay residents cut off by slips were unsuccessful overnight but Police hope to make contact with the group today.

• SH60 – Takaka to Collingwood, Closed due to major washout at Birds Hill.
• Abel Tasman Dr – Road closed from Pohara onwards,
• Totaranui Road – Closed
• Awaroa Road – Closed
• McCallum Road – closed past end of seal.
• Rameka Creek Rd- washed out.
• Tangmere Rd, Matata Rd – closed
• Bird Rd – Closed
• Falconer Rd – closed.
• Brightwater - Waimea West road closed due to slip blocking road just north of Teapot Valley Road .

Waimea - Roads Closed
• Waimea West - closed between Eves Valley and River Road, 4wd local access only
• Aniseed Valley – Closed from Haycock Road to summit of hill. Alternative access via private forestry road – Mead Road & Lee Valley Road open to 4wd and only during daylight hours.
• Aniseed Valley – closed from 2km past Mead Road intersection to end due to flooding across road.
• Wairoa Gorge closed 1 km Brightwater side of Forks Bridge. Expected to open later today.
