Mayor & Councillors Call For Understanding

The Council wishes to explain the resolution passed on 30 November to close Oxford Road, Woodville - “from 16 December 2011 or such earlier time as may be desirable, and it shall continue to remain in force until 31 January 2012 or such other date as may be resolved by the Council.”

Many Woodville businesses have suffered a downturn since the Gorge closure – coupled with the present economic downturn. We realise that it will inconvenience some locals for a short time, but we hope people understand that Councillors did not make this decision lightly. We hope that there will be understanding of the predicament that people of the Tararua region find themselves in at the moment.

We, the Council, are keen to assist the local farming community who may require immediate access to Oxford Road, the Saddle and Whariti Road.
