Person killed by Train

At about 1.33am on the morning of Saturday 24 December 2011 a person was hit by a train in Te Kuiti, Waitomo District.

The accident occurred at the northern end of town near Hospital Road.

The accident did not occur near any railway crossing.

Trains on the main railway line have been stopped and delays are inevitable.

Specialist search and rescue staff have been called from Hamilton to assist in the scene examination together with photographers.

Police will release further details when they become available.
