WELLINGTON CITY

Two of the eleven victims in Saturday's fatal Carterton hot air balloon crash have been returned to their families, after being formally identified at a hearing before Coroner Peter Ryan in Wellington today.

They were 21 year old Johannes JORDAAN, known as Chrisjan, aged 21 of Wellington and girlfriend Alexis STILL, aged 19, also of Wellington.

Wairarapa Area Commander Inspector Brent Register says, "Our condolences are with the families of Chrisjan and Alexis as they continue to grieve the loss of their loved ones."

Media statements from both families will be released later this evening but both families have asked Police to advise media that after these statements are released, they do not wish to be contacted by media and do not want media present at the funeral services for Chrisjan or Alexis. We ask that you respect their right to privacy at this difficult time.

A scene examination at the site of the accident is continuing.
