New 10-trip transfer tickets designed to take some of the hassle out of making longer cross-town trips are now available for Whangarei’s CityLink public bus service.

Sharlene Selkirk, Public Passenger Transport Officer, for the Northland Regional Council says the 10-trip transfer tickets are available on four route combinations and have been introduced as a result of public demand.

She says the tickets will make it easier for parents to pre-pay a week’s travel for school age children who usually transfer between bus routes and will also speed up boarding times during peak hours.

The 10 trip transfer tickets cost $40 for an adult and $25 for a child and are only available for those transferring between the following services:

  • Onerahi to Kamo/Tikipunga
  • Raumanga/Morningside to Kamo/Tikipunga
  • Kamo/Tikipunga to Raumanga/Morningside
  • Onerahi to Raumanga/Morningside

Mrs Selkirk says bus users transferring between routes have always been able to buy single trip transfer tickets at an already discounted rate of $4 per adult or $2.50 per child.

“However, this is the first time we’ve offered the 10-trip transfer tickets.”

She says as the single trip transfer tickets are already offered at a discounted rate, there is no further price reduction for the 10-trip discount, but expects they will still prove popular with regular bus users who had specifically requested a multiple ticket transfer option.

She says tickets are available now from both CityLink bus drivers and the Northland Regional Council’s Water St offices.

Mrs Selkirk says more information about the new tickets (including applicable conditions) is available online via: www.nrc.govt.nz/busfares

Meanwhile, Mrs Selkirk reminds passengers that CityLink Whangarei buses will not run on Northland Anniversary Day (Monday 30 January) or Waitangi Day (Monday 06 February).

The bus service - operated by NorthBus and contracted to the Northland Regional Council - does not operate on Sundays or public holidays.

However, Mrs Selkirk says as both public holidays fall on a Monday, buses will still be running to their normal Saturday timetable on both long holiday weekends (Saturday 28 January and Saturday 04 February).
