OPOTIKI

On Tuesday the 10th of January two burglars were disturbed at a rural address on Verrall Road, Opotiki.

They had set off the alarm in the house which was heard by a couple who were driving past the address.

The couple drove into the address and tried to block the exit of the two offenders as they tried to leave in their vehicle. The offenders bumped the couple’s car out of the way and sped off up Verrall Road.

The couple gave chase in their own vehicle long enough to get the registration number of the offenders vehicle.

As a result Police were able to quickly ascertain who the offenders were and located one a short time later along with the vehicle seen at the address.

Police later executed a search warrant at an address in Waiotahi and located property stolen from the Verrall Road address along with Cannabis growing at the address.

A second man has been located in relation to the incident, both men have been charged with burglary with the second being charged with Cultivating Cannabis, both will appear in the Opotiki District Court on Monday the 16th of January.

Police would like to thank the couple for their quick and courageous actions and would reiterate to the public that should they see any suspicious or unusual activity in their area to dial 111.
