Members of the Police National Dive Squad have spent several hours at Titahi Bay beach today, searching for missing 24 year old swimmer Albert Alapata, last seen about 4pm on Saturday afternoon in the water.

Officer in charge of the search, Senior Constable Dan O'Connell says Surf Lifesaving New Zealand, the Wellington Police Maritime Unit and members of the Police National Dive Squad have conducted a further marine search today.

"Despite our further search efforts, Mr Alapata has not been recovered. The Dive Squad will continue searching for another half an hour and will then resume searching again at first light tomorrow morning."

A Department of Conservation Ranger will do a further search around Mana Island this evening and again tomorrow and Surf Lifesaving New Zealand will conduct a further shoreline search tomorrow morning.
