A new website has been launched just in time to help people with their New Year resolutions to become more active.

New Plymouth District Council has launched letsgo.org.nz so that people can log the trips they take by walking, running, jogging, cycling, skating, scootering or bussing.

Users can challenge friends, family or colleagues to log their trips, and contribute to the sustainable transport totals of their workplace, school or organisation.

“We hope this website creates an online community of all those active people we see riding, walking and bussing most days, and entice those who are tempted to leave the car at home to try walking or riding,” says Let’s Go Project Manager Carl Whittleston.

During the launch period every tenth person to sign up wins a prize, and everyone from New Plymouth District who signs up and logs their active transport trips in January and February goes into the draw to win a bike.

The ‘log a trip’ feature enables users to measure their progress in kilometres travelled, calories burnt, and carbon and money saved.

The website also has bus timetables, route maps, tips for riders and walkers, details about coming events, and advice for creating travel plans for schools and workplaces.

Let’s Go came about in 2010 when New Plymouth District Council was awarded $3.7 million from the New Zealand Transport agency to become a model walking and cycling community.
