If you dine out just once in 2012, make it The Easter Show Wine Awards Dinner. This lavish black tie event is the only dining experience on the social calendar that matches New Zealand’s top 15 gold medal wines to a degustation menu created by renowned Chef Simon Sheehan.

The theme for the 2012 dinner is Kiwiana, Chef Simon Sheehan will explore how to use some of our most loved traditional ingredients with a refreshing new approach!
This year’s menu is a fiercely guarded secret, however to set the scene we have selected a few menu items from last year’s much talked about dinner.

Olive Oil Confit of Hapuka, cardamom candied peppers with lotus root, matched to Champion Sauvignon Blanc

Curry Spiced Monkfish, onion & thyme puree, puy lentils, lemon & elderflower syrup, matched to Champion Viognier

Duck Breast, beetroot puree, charred asparagus, horseradish hollandaise & orange pepper matched to Rosé

Roasted Breast of Pheasant on warm game terrine with millet, rhubarb puree and brioche sauce, with Pinot Noir

Exploding Violet Ice-cream, lemon & vanilla curd matched to Champion Sweet Wine

and much, much more on the menu!

Simon says his goal for the 2012 dinner is ‘To celebrate New Zealand’s unique ingredients, and to put a modern twist on some classic Kiwi dishes. Each dish will be perfectly matched to the award winning wines of 2012. My goal as always is to exceed our guest’s expectations’.

This Year the awards will be hosted by journalist and Master of Wines Vic Williams, regarded by many connoisseurs as the country’s authority on food and wine matching.

This glittering black-tie event is much anticipated by all areas of the wine industry, and individuals who understand and enjoy the best of wine and food matches. The Wine Awards Dinner is open to businesses and the public, and is strongly supported by the professions and companies that are looking for a glamorous night out to thank key clients or reward staff.

The Easter Show Wine Awards is an incorporated not-for-profit association and the proceeds cover costs only while promoting our finest winemakers. Winning wines may display the coveted Easter Show Award sticker for easy consumer identification.
