More Smartphone Apps From NPDC

Even more information from New Plymouth District Council is now available via Smartphone applications.

Following the release of a TSB Bank Festival of Lights Smartphone app in December, the Council has now made available apps about the district’s parks, and to enable the public to report any issues quickly.

iCouncil is a nationwide iPhone and iPad app which NPDC has joined so that locals can quickly advise the Council about any issues they come across, such as water leaks or vandalism.

“It’ll be very handy for people who spot anything while they’re walking through public areas – they can just whip out their iPhone or iPad, pinpoint the issue on a map so that we get the exact location, and send us the details,” says Manager Customer and Regulatory Services Simon Pickford.

MyParx is an app for iPhones with images and information about public parks in the district.

The app has been created by the Parks Forum which has membership among park management organisations in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada and the USA. NPDC and Christchurch City Council are currently the only New Zealand councils to take part in MyParx.

“We saw a great opportunity to join an easy to use Smartphone app that can operate as a personal guide of the district’s parks and reserves,” says Manager Parks Programmes Steve McGill.

“The app lists the parks that are nearest to wherever you are.

“So far we have 11 parks listed, with more to be loaded. It’s a great way for us to showcase the spectacular outdoor recreation spaces we have in the district, from our most popular parks and reserves through to some lesser-known gems.”
