Police Commissioner Peter Marshall is today pleased to confirm the promotion and appointment of Superintendent Richard Chambers as the new Tasman District Commander.

Superintendent Chambers will take up his new command on 27 February. He will be based at the district headquarters in Nelson with responsibility for policing services across Marlborough, Nelson Bays and West Coast.

“Richard is an innovative and very capable senior officer with a strong track record of operational, investigative, strategic and leadership experience. I’m pleased to confirm his promotion and appointment and wish him well for the future,” Commissioner Marshall said.

Superintendent Chambers is currently based at Police National Headquarters, leading the mobility workstream of the Policing Excellence strategy.

Prior to this he was the relieving Wellington Police District Commander from December 2010 to October 2011, and was the Area Commander for Lower Hutt from July 2007 to December 2010.

Previous roles included uniform and CIB positions in Auckland and Wellington Districts as well as two years as a strategy manager at Police National Headquarters. Superintendent Chambers joined police in 1996.

His tertiary qualifications include an Executive Masters in Public Administration gained through the Australia and New Zealand School of Government; and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Auckland.
