Keeping to Irish tradition, St Patrick’s Day is renowned for friends and family gathering to celebrate
life over a pint of Guinness. This year, collectively with millions of people from around the globe,
Kiwiʼs are encouraged to attempt setting a world record certified by GUINNESS WORLD
RECORDS™ by marking St Patrickʼs Day as officially ʻThe Friendliest Day of the Yearʼ.

To set this world record, Guinness is inviting fans to simply pledge online - via Facebook - that they
will celebrate true Irish friendliness this St Patrickʼs Day to help make it ʻThe Friendliest Day of the
Yearʼ.

Every year, millions of people around the world celebrate St Patrickʻs Day. “From festive parades, to
parties at local Irish pubs, the pikelets at your office morning tea and iconic buildings turning green,
everyone and everything becomes a little bit Irish on the 17th March,” says Fergal Murray, Master
Brewer of Guinness.

In order to convince the representatives of GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ to award the certificate,
Guinness must prove that millions of people have participated in the event worldwide. By tallying up
the online pledges, as well as counting people at various St Patrickʻs Day celebrations, Guinness
hopes to set the record straight and mark St Patrickʻs Day as officially ʻThe Friendliest Day of the
Yearʼ.

“Every year more than 10 million pints of Guinness are raised around the world in celebrations large
and small, and even more so on St. Patrickʻs Day. Despite the different ways each country celebrates
this special occasion, one element remains constant and authentically Irish: and thatʼs the Guinness.
